PMD Group began more than 25 years ago in 1997 as The Marketing Department. It was founded by Debbie Fletcher and Marta Lane, two coworkers and friends with credit union experience in marketing and graphic design. The founders saw a need for an agency that could help smaller to medium size businesses with their marketing initiatives. Many times, these companies either didn’t have a designated marketing person or department or they had an employee that was wearing many different hats within their business. By partnering with The Marketing Department, credit unions could have a dedicated marketing team that managed all of their strategic plans.
Two years later, a related business, The Printing Department, was founded by Phil Hanusch. The business provided production services to clients within the industry, including The Marketing Department, and businesses in non-financial industries as well. Phil was able to bring his extensive production experience, keen business sense and entrepreneurial spirit to the partnership and over the next four years, both companies increased in number of clients and staff as their reputation grew. In 2003, the two companies merged to become PMD Marketing, with the three owners as equal partners.
PMD Marketing’s mission was very simple – helping clients meet their strategic goals. This was achieved by hiring experts in the industry and offering the key products and services that clients needed. At the core of this, however, was what set PMD Marketing apart. In addition to being experts in our field who offered important products and services, our customer service, our ethical decision making and our pride in the work we did helped us to stand out in the industry. This philosophy is still very much a part of our makeup, as listed in our values. We still hire industry experts and we still believe that customer service, responsiveness and integrity are some of the most important character traits of our most important asset: our employees.
As marketing and printing evolved to keep up with technology, so did PMD Marketing. There was always “something new” on the horizon and much of PMD’s growth was driven by our focus on providing new marketing and advertising options for clients. When the company started, we had a very short list of our products and services because that’s what our clients needed at that time. Over time, our products and services have grown tremendously, as has our portfolio of clients. We are able to partner with clients big or small, no matter the size or makeup of their marketing departments, to help them meet their strategic goals through our ever-growing portfolio of products and services!
EVOLVING & GROWING
Over the past two and a half decades, the biggest change in the marketing industry has been the influence and dependence on digital and web marketing, with today’s consumer demanding immediate information and responses. To embrace that change and better define who we are as a company, PMD Marketing fell under sole leadership of Phil Hanusch and was rebranded and renamed to become PMD Group in 2014. By becoming PMD Group, we were able to more fully capitalize on our strengths in Marketing, Advertising, and Web. The name change allowed us to communicate that we are a full-service agency for our clients, and not limited to the printing, marketing and design fields.
Upon the passing of Phil Hanusch in the spring of 2017, Laura Hanusch, past CFO for PMD Group, became CEO and sole owner. Today, PMD continues to be a company focused on creativity and growth, both for ourselves and our clients. We have clients in more than 10 industries, including credit unions, manufacturing, oil and gas, health care, book publishing and retail. We are experts at marketing, design and production, and love sharing our talents to help clients reach their goals. We are excited about how quickly marketing and mediums change and look forward to what the future will bring.
